Two district MPs are urging people to make 2021 the year to Buy British to help the UK economy recover from the pandemic.
Shipley MP Philip Davies and Keighley MP Robbie Moore said the move would also help businesses and bosses take back staff who lost work as a result of Covid and create more jobs for future generations.
Today Blue Collar Conservatism, of which both MPs are members is launching the Buy British campaign to get the country’s economy moving.
Mr Davies, who co-founded BCC said: “We need 2021 to be the start of our recovery and the end of these paralysing lockdowns and tier systems to allow our businesses to thrive again. Communities across the Shipley constituency have supported each other throughout the pandemic and this is an extension of that great work. We can all play a part by shopping locally and supporting our excellent businesses".
“With all these arbitrary rules and lockdowns, businesses have really struggled and do not know if they are coming or going from one week to the next. We all know ‘Made in Britain’ is the hallmark of a high quality product and we can and should be proud of that".
Both MPs said never has it been more important to Buy British and finally next year Britain will be free from the shackles of the European Union.
Mr Moore said: “As we enter 2021 after this testing year, we need to remember those many local independent businesses who did so much to support our community during the first lockdown and throughout the further restrictions. Therefore, lets show them our support by buying British and buying on our local high street to help them through what is going to be a difficult time ahead.”
Mr Davies and Mr Moore said they hoped when shopping people would question where goods come from and whether there was a British alternative.
