AN MP is piling pressure on supermarket giant Sainsbury’s to update residents on the future of the old Bradford and Bingley site.
Years after the site was purchased by Sainsbury’s its future is still uncertain. Shipley MP Philip Davies said residents deserve to know what is happening.
Mr Davies said: “I have been told that Sainsbury’s are actively seeking a purchase and hoping to make an announcement before the end of the year. While I hope this is the case, I have asked Sainsbury’s to come to a meeting in February at Bingley Parish Church as a fallback plan, in case things have not moved on, and they have agreed.
“It is not good for our local economy for the site to be sitting undeveloped when jobs could be created and it needs to be sorted as soon as possible – it has been too long.”
Sainsbury’s were going to build a large supermarket on the land but instead choose to open a smaller store elsewhere in the town.
Mr Davies has vowed to keep pressure up on the supermarket until this problem is resolved.
