Prime Minister Rishi Sunak met with dozens of businesses this morning at a breakfast event in Bingley town centre.
Invited by Shipley MP Philip Davies, the PM was told what challenges businesses are facing and what support they need from government. Issues discussed focused around energy prices and inflation but also investment in the town with some businesses telling the Prime Minister they often feel forgotten about by Bradford Council.
Discussions also focussed on the government’s Levelling Up Fund and the bid for the regeneration of the town centre and reopening of the Bingley swimming pool.
Mr Sunak said: “I was delighted to accept Philip’s invitation to Bingley. During the visit I met with many of the fantastic businesses in the town centre and listened to their concerns.
"I wish the council every success with their bids in the next round of levelling up funding.”
Mr Davies added: “I am delighted Rishi took the time to come and meet with local businesses. I wanted him to come to Bingley to see for himself and to hear what the town needs and how vital investment is, but also because Bingley regularly gets overlooked by Bradford Council."
The event at The Coffee Lounge Café, Queens Street, was attended by about 40 people. Most of the businesses that attended are part of Bingley Chamber of Commerce. Businesses which attended ranged from hairdressers, mortgage brokers and solicitors to shop owners and energy brokers.
