Philip met with students at Shipley college to hear what they think of new courses being offered as an alternative to A-levels.
Shipley College was one of the first colleges in the country to offer T (technical) Levels, 2 year courses taken after GCSEs equivalent to three A-levels.
Philip chatted with students taking a range of courses including Digital Business Services, Design and Development, Management and Administration, Accounting, Finance and Digital Production. He set out the role of an MP both in Westminster and across the constituency and took questions from the students on issues ranging from Brexit to changes at Number 10.
Philip said: “I enjoyed chatting to the students and hearing from them what they think of their courses. I believe we need to offer a range of post GCSE options to ensure every young person can do a course which is suited to their needs and aspirations. T-levels offer a great combination of classroom based learning with workplace experience and prepare the students for their chosen career paths.
“It was very encouraging to hear from students that they have gained confidence while at college, especially through public speaking and some even told me they may consider becoming an MP in future. I wish them all well.”

T-levels were developed in collaboration with employers and education providers so that the content meets the needs of industry and prepares students for entry into skilled employment, an apprenticeship or related technical study through further or higher education. They offer students practical and knowledge based learning at a school or school and on the job experience through industry placements.
