Cancer Support Yorkshire, based at Daisy House Farm, Smith Lane, Bradford, is a small independent charity which provides free practical and emotional support to young people affected by the disease, along with their families and carers.
Mr Davies said: “The work this charity does is fantastic and I know from speaking to families who have accessed the services, it makes such a difference to both the child affected and those around them.”
Mr Davies met with Executive Director Sarah Wood, and Community Engagement Officer/Fundraiser Linda Enderby, to discuss the charity’s post covid challenges and recovery plans.
The charity, said its services and fundraising were severely affected by the pandemic and it needed to re-establish its pre-covid provision, along with its volunteer network.
Mr Davies said: “The charity’s volunteer network has more than halved since the pandemic and I know they are keen to hear from people who have some time and want to help. I cannot praise the work they do highly enough and I am sure anyone wanting to get involved will be very much welcomed.”
The charity receives funding from the local Clinical Commissioning Group and local council but still needs to raise £265,000 a year from fundraising and voluntary donations.
Services offered by Cancer Support Yorkshire include counselling, wellbeing groups and therapies, welfare rights and a transport service. It has two dedicated centres in Bradford and Skipton and a preloved charity shop in Skipton.
