Philip Davies MP has met with dozens of constituents in the latest of a series of coffee mornings being held at various locations across the constituency.
The event was held at Salem United Reformed Church Hall, Burley in Wharfedale, and gave residents the chance to put any questions they wanted to Philip in a relaxed setting.
Various important local issues were discussed including cuts in funding to local bus services by the Labour-led West Yorkshire Transport Authority, concerns about building on the Green Belt and the lack of infrastructure to support new homes, as well as foodbanks.
National issues ranged from strike action of teachers and civil servants, Covid lockdowns and the economic problems they have caused, along with current issues such as the mother Carla Foster who was jailed for taking an abortion pill late into her pregnancy and issues surrounding gender identity.
Philip said: “I really enjoy these coffee mornings as it gives people a chance to come and discuss whatever they want with me. I am always happy to discuss any issue with anybody and no topic is off the table.
“People are invited randomly to ensure a mix of political views are represented in the room and ensuring we can have a lively but polite debate. Over 50 people attended and a wide range of local and national issues were covered.”
Other subjects raised with Philip included the ban on electric shock collars for dogs which comes into force next year, foreign language degrees, regulation of landlords and tenants, and the charitable status of private schools.
