Government is committed to levelling up and a decision on the success of Bingley’s bid will be known within weeks, new Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has told an MP.
Shipley MP Philip Davies questioned the new PM during his first Prime Minister’s Question time in the Commons, urging him to reaffirm his commitment to the Levelling Up agenda.
Mr Davies said: “His two predecessors made levelling up a key part of their agenda, would he reaffirm his commitment to levelling up and start as he means to go on by approving the levelling up fund bid for Bingley in my constituency.”
Government prioritised Bradford as an area needing investment, and bids had to be submitted through the council.
Bingley’s bid would see the pool transformed into an attractive, modern new leisure facility with six lane swimming pool, gym, studio, and café.
New PM Mr Sunak said: “I can give him my cast iron commitment to levelling up particularly in Yorkshire, which he and I share. Obviously, he will know I cannot comment on individual bids but by the end of the year an announcement is expected and I wish him every luck.”
The £4.8 billion Fund will be spent across the country for town centre and high street regeneration, along with local transport projects and cultural and heritage assets.
Mr Davies also welcomed the new PM into his job and added “he is absolutely the right person for the job and he has my full support”.
