Pupils from the across the Shipley constituency have until the end of the week to put pen to paper and choose their British Hero as part of a competition run by their local MP.
Shipley MP Philip Davies wants young people to celebrate all that is good about Britain as part of the annual competition which closes on Friday.
Pupils can either write or draw their hero, whether a national figure or local legend, including figures such as scientific expert Felix Rimmington, who pioneered many modern forensic science techniques or the Brownlee brothers, world champion triathletes.
Mr Davies said: “I’ve been running this competition for a number of years and I am always delighted by the time and thought that clearly goes into the entries. The competition is about celebrating all that is good about Britain and showcasing the talent we have both here on our doorstep and further afield in the country. I hope that by researching their chosen heroes, pupils understand they can achieve great things too.
“I look forward to going into the schools to meet the winners and other pupils and hear why they chose to write or draw about the certain historical or contemporary figures.”
Mr Davies will judge the entries with Bradford Council Chief Executive Kersten England, Director of NEESIE Noreen Khan Noreen Khan, and CEO of Bradford City FC Ryan Sparks will judge the competition.
Scores from each of the judges will be added together and winners chosen from each school years.
Many prizes are up for grabs, including include tickets to Bradford City FC, tickets for Diggerland and panto tickets. A trip to London for afternoon tea in Parliament is also on offer. Prizes will be presented in a prize giving before the Christmas Holidays.
Mr Davies added: “I want to thank everyone who has donated competition prizes, they are very much appreciated and thank you in advance for the judges who give up so much time to go through each of the entries. In recent years we have had in excess of 500 entries so it does take a lot of time!”
Mr Davies has written to each of his schools about the competition. Entries can be submitted via the school to Mr Davies’ office or to his office at First Floor, 3 Manor Lane, Shipley, BD18 3EA by close of play on Friday November 4.
