Philip Davies has secured a meeting with the government minister in charge of closing Job Centres and will set out why Shipley should not be merged with Bradford.
As part of a national closure plan the Shipley office would merge with either Bradford's Eastbrook Court Job centre in Vicar Lane or Westfield House in Manningham Lane.
The Shipley MP, speaking in Parliament, told how he visited his local office on Friday and urged Work and Pensions Minister Damian Hinds to meet with him to discuss issues raised.
He said: “I went to visit so I could hear first hand the concerns the staff have about the closure and the concerns they have for the clients there. If the minister would meet with me then we can go through their lists of concerns and hopefully he can find a way to address them.”
Mr Hinds agreed to the meeting.
Mr Davies said afterwards: “The staff at the jobcentre in Shipley raised some extremely valid and legitimate concerns which I will be putting to the Minister on their behalf”.
