Shipley MP Philip Davies has welcomed the news Airedale Hospital will be completely rebuilt as part of government’s New Hospital Programme.
Health Secretary Stephen Barclay announced Airedale, along with four other major hospitals have been prioritised and work is expected to be completed by 2030.
Announcing the news Mr Barclay said: “These five hospitals are in pressing need of repair and are being prioritised so patients and staff can benefit from major new hospital buildings, equipped with the latest technology.”
Mr Davies has long campaigned for a rebuild and repeatedly raised the issue in Parliament and privately with ministers.
Mr Davies said: “I am delighted Airedale has been named as one of the hospitals prioritised for rebuild. I have always been clear to government ministers that Airedale needs investment to make it safe for both staff and patients, and to allow the staff to continue delivering excellent care to my constituents. I hope work can begin as soon as possible to ensure the rebuild is completed as hoped by 2030.”
Making the announcement Mr Barclay praised Mr Davies and Keighley MP Robbie Moore for “campaigning vociferously” for the new build.
Last month Mr Davies met with Chief Executive Foluke Ajayi and Independent Chair Andrew Gold to discuss the current building work and challenges facing the hospital.
