An MP is urging government to give incentives to employers to take on disabled workers so they can get into the workplace.
Shipley MP Philip Davies is holding a Disability Confident event on April 28 to help quash any doubts employers may have and give them confidence to take on more people with disabilities.
Speaking in the Commons he said: “What incentives can be given to employers to give disabled people a chance to allow themselves to prove themselves to show what they are capable of if they are just given that chance in the first place?”
Government scheme Disability Confident aims to support people with long term health conditions and increase an employers’ understanding of disability.
Disability Minister Penny Mordaunt said: “We are looking at what further support and in some case incentives we can provide to employers, but actually one thing we do need to do is to raise the profile of the fact that these individuals have so much to offer any business.”
Events will be held in Parliament next month and all MPs will be asked to encourage specific organisations in their constituencies to become Disability Confident.
