Residents and businesses in Burley in Wharfedale look set to benefit from superfast broadband coverage after an MP lobbied telecoms giant Virgin.
Shipley MP Philip Davies met with company bosses to set out concerns about coverage for his constituents and businesses. He has since been told the area will be included in a scheme to improve access together with Otley and Menston if residents so wish.
Virgin’s Cable My Street initiative is the next generation of optical fibre, offering speeds of up to 200Mbps. The company are rolling the scheme out to more homes and businesses for ultrafast broadband and TV services and residents can register their interest later this month.
Mr Davies said: “Good internet connections are vital to businesses and our local economy and I know some of my constituents and businesses have ultrafast speeds. Others struggle to connect at all.
“I would encourage all local businesses and residents to log on and register their interest to ensure we benefit from this expansion and investment.”
The expected improvement in Burley in Wharfedale, and Otley and Menston follows secured investment earlier this year in Wilsden.
