People in Bingley are set to get extra support to ensure they can deposit cash into their bank accounts, after their MP lobbied finance bosses.
Shipley MP Philip Davies contacted LINK, the network which connects the UK's cash machines, calling for additional support in the town following multiple banks in the area closing their doors leaving customers and businesses struggling to make cash deposits.
Now LINK has confirmed Bingley will be one of six areas to pilot a scheme looking at how solutions can be found.
Mr Davies said: “Bingley has been badly affected by bank branch closures in recent times and I therefore asked LINK if they would include Bingley in a pilot for improved shared banking services. I am delighted they have agreed that Bingley should be included in this pilot and I know this will be very much appreciated by both local residents and businesses in Bingley.”
LINK said it understood some communities had a high use of cash and being able to deposit cash locally was important for both businesses and consumers.
It said it will work with Cash Access UK to pilot different innovative solutions to meet the needs of individual areas.
Mr Davies has been told Cash Access UK will visit Bingley and work with people locally to figure out what is needed and how best to ensure people can deposit their money when they want.
