Brain Tumour Patients and carers from Shipley join mass lobby asking MPs to in the fight against brain tumours

Six patients and fundraisers from Shipley joined over 100 other patients, carers, charities and healthcare professionals from on a mass lobby of Parliament on Wednesday to ask local MP, Philip Davies to help raise awareness about brain tumours in Shipley and to get the Government to do more in the fight against brain tumours.

Bradford MPs are divided on when troops should come home from Afghanistan - with two demanding they all return before Christmas.

Bradford West Respect MP George Galloway has tabled a Commons motion calling on the Government to withdraw British forces immediately with all military home within months.

Britain is withdrawing 500 troops by the end of this year, leaving 9,000. The UK plans for British troops to end their combat role by the end of 2014.

Campaigners want to see safety measures installed on a "nightmare" Shipley road.

The junction of Branksome Drive and Bradford Road has been described as"very, very dangerous" by motorists who say they do not want there to be a serious accident before action is taken.

Karen Hunt, a resident of Branksome Grove, a cul-de-sac at the end of Branksome Drive, said: "There's a lot of traffic on that road all the time. There's no such thing as rush hour because it's busy all the time.

An MP has accused Bradford Council of cutting library services to make a political point.

Shipley MP Philip Davies said there was no reason why the Labour-led authority needed to close five libraries across the district when it was receiving a similar grant to previous years when libraries were kept open.

A new police policy across Bradford to withhold some crime details from Neighbourhood Watch groups to avoid raising the fear of crime has been slammed as"unjustifiable","secretive" and"silly".

Until recently, Neighbourhood Watch schemes were given information about all the crime happening in their ward.

Now, they have been told in an e-mail that they will only receive details of crimes in their streets, rather than the entire ward, as police bosses believe the old system had"a negative effect on people's perception of crime."

Bradford Council has come under fire from an MP for allowing children's books in Urdu to be available in libraries around the district.

Philip Davies, Conservative MP for Shipley, said the policy did nothing to improve community relations or encourage integration. He said it instead disadvantaged young children who needed to have a strong command of English before they started school.

Plans to tear apart the Shipley constituency as part of a shake-up of political boundaries has been branded"mad and insane" by Conservative Party chief Baroness Warsi.

She said the party would appeal against some of the Boundary Commission's proposals, which cut the number of MPs at Westminster from 650 to 600 and make sure constituencies contain similar numbers of voters.

But she insisted the overall plan was right even though not everyone in the party would be"entirely content" with the changes.
