More money must be made ploughed into mixed ability sport so everyone who wants to get involved can, an MP has said.
At present there is mixed ability rugby but Shipley MP Philip Davies wants Government to fund the expansion of different types of mixed ability sports.
Speaking in Parliament during Culture, Media and Sports Question Time, he highlighted the success of the latest tournament in Spain and urged Sports Minister Tracey Crouch to support the venture.
Mr Davies said: “As the minister knows the first of those tournaments was in my constituency in Bingley. They want to expand mixed ability sport to cover more sports and they need more funding in order to do that.
“She has already given the great support but will she give them more support to get the funding that they need so more people can play mixed ability sport.”
Mr Davies said sport must be made inclusive to ensure everyone who wants to participate should be able to regardless of ability or disability.
Sports Minister Ms Crouch said: “It is was a pleasure to meet the mixed ability rugby sports team about 18 months ago to discuss their tournament in his constituency. I was pleased to see over the summer recess the success of the team and I would be happy to meet with them again and him to discuss taking this forward.”
