AN MP has urged the Prime Minister to support a bid to bring extra investment to Bingley – saying his constituents depend on Government support as they are failed by Bradford Council.
Shipley MP Philip Davies re-iterated his call for Bingley to be awarded funds from Government’s multi billion pound Levelling Up Fund during Prime Minister’s Questions in Parliament.
Mr Davies said: “Labour controlled Bradford Council continually neglect the needs of Bingley and other parts of my constituency as they pour all their money into the Labour inner city heartlands and therefore my constituents look to the government to put right their failings.
“That is why the Levelling Up Fund is so important. Will the Prime Minister insist that the Levelling Up Fund for Bingley which has been submitted and will also unlock many millions of pounds of private sector investment, will be successful when the announcement is made in the near future.”
The £4.8 billion Fund will be spent across the country for town centre and high street regeneration, along with local transport projects and cultural and heritage assets.
Bingley’s bid would see the pool transformed into an attractive, modern new leisure facility with six lane swimming pool, gym, studio, and café.
Rishi Sunak said: “Unlike the Labour council my hon friend (Mr Davies) is a fantastic champion for his constituents in Bingley. As I have told him previously, I cannot comment on individual bids and but I wish him every success and will be following with close interest with how it proceeds.”
Government prioritised Bradford as an area needing investment, and bids had to be submitted through the council and allbids had to have the support of the local MP.
